Coupon GameBy Wixx
The coupon game is simple and can be played at different levels depending on how much you want to save and how much time you can devote to it. At the most basic level everyone in your home / dorm / apartment competes to see who can find the most coupons for items that you regularly purchase or substitutes. A substitute would be a different brand or a cheaper alternative such as buying whole dill pickles instead of sliced pickles.
The winner in this game would be the person who saves the highest dollar amount with coupons in a month. If you are able to get your coupons doubled, you would get double credit. The winner then gets to decide what game to play during a games night or whether to go to the park or the library on Saturday morning, or whatever everyone can agree upon as the prize.
The important part is not to buy things because you have a coupons for it, but to obtain coupons for only the items that you already buy. You will be amazed at just how easy it is to hunt for coupons, either online, in the Sunday paper inserts, or at the stores themselves.
Most people think of coupons as only being for groceries, and while grocery stores probably do have a good portion of them, many companies offer coupons on their products. You may be able to find coupons for televisions, telephones, computer equipment and household cleaning products to name a few. It just takes a little time to check the manufacturer's website and the papers. That is what this game is about - making it fun to spend that time looking for savings on items that you are going to buy anyway.
The next level of this game would be to give bonus points for any item that ends up being free after using the coupon or free after rebate. Not only would you get credit for the entire cost of the item, but you would also get say 2 additional dollars credit if you can get it for free. This should entice players to do a little more hunting for deals and lower your monthly recurring purchase purchase even further.
Even more advanced play would be to only buy items that you have a coupon for. This would mean that if you wanted a certain food or meal, you would have to really search since you could not buy it until you found coupons for it. The easiest way to save money is to lower your expenses, so get out your coupon box and start playing.
